Who We Are

Originally formed in 2018 with the primary purpose being to take top level Australian musicianship far and wide, including remote areas of Australia - hence the name “Outback Brass” was born.

Founder Phill O'Neill spent a number of years living in regional Australia where top-level musical performances are less common than in coastal centres and major cities. This experience planted a seed for Phill to find a way to connect wider Australia with the best brass music available.

In Outback Brass we pride ourselves on being early-adopters of the digital concert space, using online video and social media to disseminate our concerts. Outback Brass can also be found performing regularly in churches, stages and outdoor spaces around Sydney. We favour performing in churches because the acoustics are well-suited to brass chamber music and we believe that is where we can produce our best sounds.

Musically, Outback Brass enjoys traditional chamber brass repertoire as well as exploring new work, especially that by Australian composers.
